Brainard Lake Recreation Area often sees the first snow sometime in September. By October, the skiing is decent. Throughout the two drainages that make up the park, lakes and streams hold both cutthroat trout and Rocky Mountain moose.
In the fall, moose line up in these meadows for the rut and surprised visitors often find it hard to believe, just how big these moose are. And always in the background, the Indian Peaks make this a majestic park.
