The Never Summer Range

There were so many good things to shoot this particular morning, I had trouble making up my mind where to spend my time. The valley directly in front of these mountains is the headwaters of the Colorado River and full of moose and elk.

The mountains define the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Never Summer Range is a fascinating one. The western side drains east to the Mississippi while the eastern side drains west to the Colorado River. The pink nature of the rock is most unusual to see in such large flanks. Notice the small avalanche path in front of the big ridge in the center.

When I reached the top of Trail Ridge Road and looked back at this site, I was very happy I made the decision to go higher.

A few minutes later and the clouds had completely burned off.
