Snow Line

Oh what a difference a little bit of elevation makes! The town is roughly at 5,400' and the top of Green Mountain is 8,100' (right hand peak). Last night we had a reasonable sized storm which deposited snow above the 7,200 foot level on the mountain.

Notice farther down to the south (left hand side) the snow level drops right down to below 6,000'. Usually it is a static line that does not waver much as it cuts across mountains.

This shot was taken north of town looking back towards the southwest. You can see NCAR as well as the Boulder valley. This image was taken at about 9:00 AM, by noon most of the snow had melted.
