Moody

The sky was a battleground for weather to slug it out. The night before we got a half foot of new snow. The clouds were lingering over the peaks, but as the Sun came up the clouds began to break apart.

A gentle orange light shot through the clouds and lit up the range while the sky in back was royal blue. The range was split in two as the peaks shone brightly in dazzling light while below the clouds, a more subdued mixture of oranges lit up the canyons and mountain flanks. I thought this was going to be an overcast day with no noticeable sunrise. So did most other photographers, because once this scene started to unfold, several rushed into the parking lot and started to quickly set up.
