Evening At Arches
I stared at this landscape for most of the afternoon. I knew this was a shot I really wanted but the light was not right. So I waited. I took hundreds of images of this landform, but as usual, right before nightfall, the colors changed. The oranges and reds started to become saturated, some alpenglow appeared in the La Sal range directly behind and all the little details in the landscape started to emerge.
Often times the long shadows of late afternoon bring a new sense of depth to a vista. This was what I was waiting for. I took several more sets of images and worked for weeks on them. This is my favorite.
