The Yellowstone River Begins

At the outlet of one of the greatest lakes on earth, starts one of the greatest rivers on earth.

The river starts with a lazy effort, barely escaping the confines of this natural lake. This meeting of lake and river can only be described as unbelievable. Beyond the confluence you can see Stevenson Island and the Absaroka Range in the distance. Once in a while a herd of buffalo cross Fishing Bridge and causes everyone to stop and wait. Otters and trout can be seen swimming back and forth and the screeches of hawks and eagles is just overhead.

To be accurate the Yellowstone actually begins high in the Absorka Mountains to the South, just to the East of Two Oceans Plateau and then flows into Yellowstone Lake.
