Entering Hayden Valley

As the mighty Yellowstone river winds it's way towards the upper and lower falls, it flows right through Hayden Valley. This section is full of buffalo on both sides. Hayden Valley contains diverse wildlife all year long.

For the next several miles this river is peaceful as it flows through a very high grassy valley. The wildlife will gather on the banks, buffalo can be seen swimming across and hot springs will occasionally be seen not far from the river. On cold days the rising steam gives their location away.

In the Summer this is a perfect place to have a picnic and take in the sights. And as always you can see the cutthroat trout quietly feeding on large mayflies and caddis flies.
