On a sleppy Sunday we received a foot or so of snow which made for excellent intimate hiking. Once in the trees all sounds were muffled as the quiet of the forest became most dominant. Once in a while the flutter of roosting birds could be heard, small foot prints gave away the history of small mammals living in the understory. The wind gently blew overhead.

Chautauqua Park is a place where prarie meets foothills, where resident animals change with the landscape. You may see any kind of local mammal here at any time. Black bear, mountain lion, bobcat, squirrils, chipmonks, deer and many other species live here. There is even a reported sighting of Bigfoot here.
