The lodge can be seen on the other end of the lake within the evergreen trees directly under Burgess Mountain. This is a recreational paradise. Hiking, canoeing and fishing are but a few of the activities available to visitors. Did I forget to mention photography?

The beautiful Emerald Lake contains many wonders among it's assets. The beautiful water, the high rocky peaks and something called the Burgess Shale. The Burgess Shale is located in the upper left hand side of this image on the flank of the peak, Mount Wapta. Designated one of the most important fossil beds in the world as it was one of the first sites to show complete, high quality preservation of the soft tissue of sea creatures in the Middle Cambrian period.

The Burgess Shale site is on the World Heritage List and access is strictly limited. Most people present on the site are thought to be fossil poachers.
