Outside of Lake Louise is a very unusual road, the Icefields Parkway. The parkway runs the length of the Bow Valley and is glacially carved. In fact there are many glaciers in the park right now. High above the lake to the left hand side you can see the Waputik Icefield breaking over the ridge.

This scene is one of the many scenes in the Rockies that is currently in a high state of change. The glaciers are melting so fast that they may not last longer than a generation more. This image captures the feeling of the Canadian Rockies and illustrates the deep rugged beauty of Banff National Park.
